Building Citizens at Every Age: A Night of Citizenship Adventures with Pack 337
Greetings Pack 337 Families,
This week, our dens dove into one of the most meaningful parts of the Cub Scout program—citizenship. Each rank explored citizenship at a level that matches their age and understanding, and it was inspiring to see how seriously our Scouts took these lessons.
Our Lions and Tigers began with the idea that citizenship starts at home. Lions drew pictures of helpful things they can do for their families—cleaning up toys, helping with pets, or setting the table. Tigers learned how teamwork is part of good citizenship by playing a lively game of charades that showed how working together makes a big difference.
Our Wolf Scouts expanded the idea of citizenship to the neighborhood and local community. As part of their adventure, they created their own miniature town out of small boxes, complete with homes and important community buildings. They also stepped into real community service by organizing a canned food drive, showing that even small efforts make a big impact when we help our neighbors.
The Bear and Webelo Scouts took their citizenship lessons to the national level, focusing on what it means to be a citizen of the United States and how our government works. Bears expressed their patriotism through art, painting American symbols such as the U.S. flag and the Statue of Liberty. Meanwhile, the Webelos had a truly memorable experience: they met Honorable Judge Shayla Lewis, learned about the judicial system, and even participated in a mock trial. It was an incredible opportunity for them to see citizenship and justice in action.
Watching every den build understanding—from home, to community, to nation—was a powerful reminder of what Scouting is all about. We model good citizenship at a young age because our goal is to help shape outstanding citizens as they grow into adults. And truth be told, these lessons aren’t just for the kids—we can all learn from the principles of responsibility, service, teamwork, and respect.
Thank you, families, for supporting your Scouts on this journey. Together, we’re raising the next generation of leaders.
Yours in Scouting,
Edward Francis
