Making Memories in the Great Outdoors: Pack 337 Spring Family Campout

Greetings Pack 337 Families,

This past weekend, Pack 337 gathered for our annual Spring Family Campout. While our turnout was a little smaller than usual, those who attended enjoyed a fantastic weekend filled with fun, adventure, and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors together.

Throughout the day, Scouts and families found many different ways to explore and have fun. Some headed out on hikes and bike rides, while others completed a nature scavenger hunt or visited the nature center to learn more about the plants and animals that call the area home. There were plenty of games being played around camp, and Scouts even put their engineering skills to the test by building structures out of spaghetti noodles and gumdrops. Sometimes the simplest activities create the best memories, and more than a few Scouts spent time enjoying the timeless challenge of skipping rocks across the lake.

Dinner was another highlight of the weekend. Everyone enjoyed a delicious taco dinner, followed by some outstanding dump cake desserts that were a big hit with Scouts and adults alike. There’s just something special about sharing a meal together outdoors after a day of adventure.

As evening approached, Mother Nature forced us to make a small adjustment. Due to the windy conditions, we held a fireless campfire program. While we missed the flames, we certainly didn’t miss out on the fun. The Scouts entertained everyone with skits that brought plenty of laughter, and we took time to recognize their accomplishments by presenting awards they had recently earned.

One of the most meaningful moments of the evening was our rank crossover ceremony. Every Cub Scout was recognized as they were introduced as their next rank level, symbolizing another successful year of growth, learning, and achievement. It was wonderful to celebrate how far each Scout has come and look forward to the adventures that await them next year.

The weather forecast kept us watching the skies throughout the day, but fortunately the storms stayed away long enough for everyone to enjoy a full night of camping outdoors. Waking up in tents, surrounded by nature, is an experience that many of our Scouts will remember long after the weekend ends.

Campouts remind us why the outdoors remains such an important part of Scouting. They give families the chance to unplug, spend time together, try new things, and create memories that simply can’t be replicated indoors. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the weekend a success. We may have been a smaller group this year, but we certainly made the most of our time together.

Yours in Scouting,
Edward Francis
