Paper Rockets Take Flight with Pack 337!

Greetings Pack 337 Families,

After having to postpone our Paper Rockets and STEM Night because of the heat, we finally got our chance to launch, and it was worth the wait!

Our Scouts had a great night building and launching their own paper rockets. Each Scout started with paper and a few basic materials and turned them into a rocket ready for the launch pad. Once construction was complete, it was time for the part everyone had been waiting for: seeing just how far their rockets could fly!

One of the best parts of the evening was watching our Scouts put the engineering design process into action. After their first launches, some Scouts went back to make modifications to their rockets. They adjusted their designs, tested them again, and tried to figure out what changes might help their rockets fly farther. It was a great hands-on example of how engineers learn through building, testing, problem-solving, and improving their designs.

Some of our Scouts also started the evening with a fun math challenge that put their quick-thinking skills to the test. They worked through math problems while trying to solve them accurately and quickly, turning something they practice at school into a game with their fellow Scouts.

Of course, the Scouts didn’t need to know that they were learning about engineering, physics, math, and problem-solving, they were too busy having fun!

That’s one of the things we love about Cub Scouting. A night spent building paper rockets and playing games can also give Scouts opportunities to experiment, think creatively, solve problems, learn from something that didn’t work the first time, and try again.

Thank you to all of the parents and volunteers who helped with our activities and kept the rockets flying throughout the evening. It was a great night of STEM, Scouting, and fun with Pack 337!

Yours in Scouting,

Edward Francis
